STOCKINGS

I always love a good package design. It doesn’t always have to be the most eye-catching or the most “in your face” product on the shelf, it just has to be solid.

Winner.

Simple yet effective and completely to die for. Applause for bringing the appeal of pantyhose back.

A YEAR OF CHANGE

There are only a few short moments left of 2011. It is almost overwhelming. So many wonderful things have happened this year, I find it almost bittersweet to turn a new leaf on a new year. As I write this post I cannot help but to think exactly how I felt this time last year; unfulfilled, miserable, trapped, uncertain, hopeful, desperate. I can now say I feel none of these things. I had a plan, a partner and undying commitment.

Things worked out. I was given an opportunity, an amazing “game changer.” Not a day goes by where I don’t take a moment to realize how incredible our life is.

Moving back to Maryland and being employed as a graphic designer makes every miserable moment of the past worth it. I am incredibly humbled as this year comes to a close. I am surrounded by amazing people who encourage me and accept me at my best and worst moments. I finally feel as if life as I envisioned it at 12 years old is finally coming true. I am a graphic designer. I even have business cards. I designed them. I have an amazing job and I work for incredible people.

I sincerely hope 2012 is the year I can enjoy the fruits of our labor. This year is about being in the moment and enjoying every second of every day.

Happy New Year! Bring it on 2012!!

PERFECT CHEMISTRY

Can I just say that Smashing Magazine is the single resource I use the most on a regular basis. That site is just packed with the greatest stuff! In fact in led me to these wonderful creations.

These stunning pieces were created by UK designer Simon C Page for the IYC 2011. This organization’s goal is to increase the public appreciation and interest in Chemistry (weird, right?). Nevertheless, the artwork is stunning despite the goal behind it. If you want to learn more about the inspiration behind individual pieces, please check out the original post here.

In 2009, the same designer created a similar series of posters for the International Year of Astronomy.

I just can’t get enough of this style. When this retro-minimalist theme is done right, it is really done right.

JUST TEMPORARY

While I don’t have much of my own Twitter following, I do happen to participate in following some of the great bloggers of our generation (sounds official, huh?!). About a week ago Jessica Hische tweeted a link that is an absolute gem!

May I introduce you to Tattly.

And the greatest part, all of these are temporary!! So that means I can actually drum up the courage to get one! I must say it is refreshing to see some design-related tattoos that aren’t ampersands. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good ampersand but there are more icons to what we do.
At two for five bucks, this is going on my more immediate lust list. Too cool!!

A CLASSIC CASE

I was recently given a bit of a design challenge (more on that later, well potentially) and in doing so I have come down with a classic case of designers block. Don’t you just hate that? It always seems to get you at the worst moments, like when you are on a strict deadline. I decided to shut down Illustrator for a bit to cruise the design world and found this inspiring image along the way. I can’t get enough of it. Don’t you just love it? So clever. Beyond clever actually. Let’s go with brilliant. Much better fit.

How do you get over designers block? I would love some suggestions other than what I found here.
